Estimating product demand is in my opinion the most valuable thing to do when doing product research. You always want to have an idea if a potential niche has enough demand or how you many units your competitors are selling. For this we use tools like Jungle Scout.
However, during my Jungle Scout Review we discovered that Jungle Scout is not that accurate on low volume products.
Jungle Scout Accuracy Test
Actual Sales | Jungle Scout Estimate | Jungle Scout Accuracy | |
---|---|---|---|
Product 1 (High Demand) | 483 | 469 | 97% |
Product 2 (Medium Demand) | 221 | 208 | 94% |
Product 3 (Low Demand) | 135 | 121 | 90% |
Here we have our test results from the Jungle Scout review again where you can see that the tool is very accurate medium to high volume products. But not that accurate on low volume products.
Luckily we can use another trick that is 100% accurate! It’s called the
999 Trick
Here is how to do the Amazon 999 method:
- Add the product you want to spy on to your shopping basket
- Go to the cart page
- Edit your quantity, select: 10+
- Enter 999 units and hit the update button.
- Amazon will now show you how much product is currently in stock for this product.
So you can get an inventory count on a product today. Then do the exact same thing 1 week later and you will get an idea of how many units this product is selling per week!
Does this always work?
No! There are a couple of times this method doesn’t work:
- The seller has more than 999 units.
- The seller has a maximum order limit per customer.
Automate it!
If you are a regular visitor of this blog, you know I’m rather lazy, and I like to work as efficiently as possible. You can imagine how much time it will take if you want to keep track of the inventory of +10 products. Luckily for me, Sellics has automated this feature:
Each day, it will do the 999 trick for the products you like to track. Then, it will show you an overview of exactly how the inventory levels changed for a particular product.
Hello, if i want to use the 999 trick to track the sales of a product in Spain, but the seller sells it in all europe, the results will be for all europe because he has only one inventary in one of the european countries. Am i right ?
I don’t sell in Europe so I actually wouldn’t know.
Hi, thanks for sharing 999 Cart Method and its automation trick…I went to the Sellics website but could not see any pricing for the version that gives 999 Cart Method automation reports……any clues?
